“The most profound and mysterious art in the world is the art of Aiki. This is the secret principle of all the martial arts in Japan. One who masters it can be an unparalleled martial genius."  (1899) Budo Hiketsu-Aiki no Jutsu.

“Aiki is an impassive state of mind without a blind side, slackness, evil intention, or fear. There is no difference between aiki and ki-ai; however, if compared, when expressed dynamically Aiki is called kiai, and when expressed statically, it is Aiki."

The energys have to unify not crash

Aiki is typically described as an idea or methode or a mix that happens in the midle of a fight.

The emphasis is put to join the rhythm of the oponent and that way find the optimal position and time to use your power.

To be diluted to an attack a lot of people think that it is nesesary to meet the force that are comming from the oponent. But an Aiki practicioner understand that thera are a difference between dilute and just crash in to or hit, and train thereby using the lines and the power of the oponen and controll this.

Aiki is related to the principle Ju, although the las mentioned puts more emphasis in the activ physical manipulation on a mechanical structural way.

 2

Lead the oponent

The practisioner of Aiki have the ability to lead the attack from the opponent and that way put the opponent in an insecure position.

The advantage or controll over the opponent it grows when the opponents balance get worse (Kuzushi).

The bodymovements (Tai Sabaki) have to be exact.

Subtle changes of the weight betewen the feets and the use of physical pressure on the oponent in the exact time, crate a possibility to lead the opponent, keeping him static or keeping the Kuzushi.

This way the prectisioner can use the desired technique in the exact right moment.

The same way through deceptive movements "Atemi!" the practitioner of Aiki can avoid a defense resopnse from the opponent, or create a response or defense from the same, just to put the opponent further into the dangerous situation.

There is a storn degree of intension, will or pshycology in this aspect of domination.

The mind and body is in coordination.

3

The use of the interior power - The Ki "soul!" energy

Kiai and Aiki us the same kanji and you can think of the two as the interior and exterior asopect of the same principle.

Kiai is related to the manifestation, se relaciona con la manifestación, question and the projection of an external energy, while Aiki to an inner energy.

This way Kiai is a union of external energys and Aiki a union of internal energys.

This us of Ki want to involve the use of Kokyu force,

Este uso de Ki querer involucrar el uso de la fureza Kokyu, it means that breathing and movements are coordianted.

Kokyu Ryoku is the natural force tha we can produce when mind and body is uniforme.
